Commission

An immersive year of discipleship, leadership development, and service.

Who is Commission for?

The Commission Year (CY) is designed for individuals aged 18–30 who desire to set aside time to serve God, grow in leadership, and be equipped for ministry. We are looking for servant-hearted, teachable individuals who are ready to grow, be challenged, and step into Christian leadership alongside the Co Church team.

What does it involve?

  • Hands-on experience working with a dynamic, motivated, and creative team.

  • Opportunities to lead and shadow experienced leaders in ministry.

  • Participation in church planting and revitalisation projects.

  • The chance to preach, lead services, and disciple others.

  • Theological and leadership training from trusted partners.

  • Mentorship and personal discipleship with experienced church leaders.

  • Potential to attend leadership conferences and retreats.

What will I be doing?

The Commission Year is structured across three interconnected streams.

Discipleship Stream

  • Engage in a small group for personal spiritual growth and accountability.

  • Learn core Christian beliefs and spiritual disciplines at a level where you can teach others.

  • Develop a habit of personal Bible study, prayer, and missional living.

Leadership Stream

  • Learn leadership principles such as servant leadership, calling, and team dynamics.

  • Receive mentorship and coaching in self-leadership and time management.

  • Observe and shadow experienced leaders, learning church structures and strategy.

  • Participate in leadership development sessions covering key topics such as working genius, communication models, and leading teams.

Ministry Stream

  • Take on practical training in a chosen ministry area, such as worship, youth, children’s ministry, communications, or operations.

  • Begin leading church services early in the programme.

  • Deliver short devotionals and midweek talks, progressing to preaching in Sunday services.

  • Engage in pastoral care, relational ministry, and outreach projects.

  • A balanced mix of training, hands-on ministry, and personal development:

    • Serve at one of the Sunday services in your ministry area.

    • Weekly Team Huddle (Staff Meeting) including worship, and leadership training.

    • Work in your ministry area and self arranged part-time employment (to cover living your costs).

  • Commission Year 25/26 runs from 1st September to 31st July. As a member of the Co Church team, you will have the flexibility to arrange holidays with your designated Ministry Head overseeing your training.

  • There is no fee to participate in Commission Year. It is a voluntary role, and each participant is expected to cover their own living costs. Most Commission participants work part-time (up to 3 days per week) alongside their ministry training.

  • Each applicant will discuss their ministry focus with the leadership team to ensure their personal growth and contribution to the church.

    Ministry areas include:

    • Worship (music, production, and creative arts)

    • Youth & Students (discipleship, mentoring, and outreach)

    • Children’s Ministry (teaching, pastoral care, and events)

    • Operations

  • Throughout the year, CY participants will have access to:

    • Conferences & Retreats – Attend two retreats (one with Co Church’s team + HTB Summit/Focus).

    • Workshops & Seminars – Covering key areas such as preaching, evangelism, conflict resolution, and church planting.
